What Do We Really Know About Water? — August 2018 Health Discussion

Our August health tip is The 15 Benefits of Water.  We have experienced incredibly high levels of warm weather the past few months.  As a result, I perspired 10 times (in my opinion) more than ever.    I was perspiring as if I was in an athletic competition or an athlete in training.  Instinctively, I increased my water intake.  Interestingly, the more water I drank, the more I perspired.  As a result, I became exhausted, experienced brain fog, dry mouth, headaches, chapped lips and was more irritable.  I was just not my usual self.  My body was telling me that I was out of sync, but I never thought it was a water issue.   According to CNN article, older adults may not be thirsty and can still be dehydrated.

At our August Fellowship, I mentioned to a few members what was going on.  One 5AMer commented that I should try Gatorade to replenish my electrolytes     “Electrolytes” — this sparked a bit of quick research at a local natural health establishment.  I learned more about water and was also given a 1.8L bottle of Essentia water, high in alkaline, with a 9.5 pH balance.  I was so dehydrated that I drank the entire bottle in less than 10 minutes.  Within 15-20 minutes, most of my symptoms, were gone.  By the way, I drank the water at room temperature; not cold — this makes a difference in how our body processes the water.

So, I was apparently drinking enough bottled water but it was not replenishing what I had lost in perspiration and I was drinking the water super cold, because I was always over heated.  I guess it was like putting soda into a car radiator instead of the antifreeze and expecting the radiator to work in top shape.  I learned that my body needs alkaline water, so not all water is created equal.

The next day, I went to my doctor’s office for a check up and we talked water in more detail.  Praise God, that all is well. I realized though that most medical doctors, are quick to prescribe a pill to remedy (which is sometimes necessary) but in my case the culprit was not a lack of water but the lack of the proper replenishing water.

I am truly much better.  I thank God for being in a ministry of folks that will actually talk to each other and check up on each other.  The talk that day helped save my life.  I am very grateful that God led me to an establishment where the owners were knowledgeable and have a desire to be of service.

There is so much about water that we may not always understand or remember because it is so readily available.  We may reach for coffee, soda or juice and rationalize that those beverages are doing double duty with our adequate water intake.  We may not like the taste of water.  Whatever our reasoning, water is just as important, as the living water of GOD.

In conclusion, let’s start by asking and praying that each 5AM Bible Study Ministry member understands the importance of water, is getting adequate water and that nationally, everyone has access to clean, clear water.  Then let’s pray that everyone partakes of the Living Water, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  With this prayer, our body and souls will surely be nourished.

I pray that my testimony or these articles spark a bit of curiosity or research with you too!  Many thanks and God’s blessings…Vanita (Babydoll) Adams, Introduction Class
