FOCUS OF THE MONTH

The Lord will be with us always

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK

(1) But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. (2) When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou   shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. — Isaiah 43:1-2 (KJV) (ESV)

Overview/Theme:

Sunday We must allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in triumph as we continue to spread the fragrance of truth about Jesus Christ.

MondayIn order for others to smell the Christ in us, we must stand firm on God’s Word. To avoid the distractions of this world, we must allow the Holy Spirit to assist us to live holy. This lifestyle will not only honor Christ now, but also when we stand before the judgement seat of Christ to receive our rewards.

TuesdayKeep in mind, we, who are the sheep of God’s pasture are not exempt from the threats of this world. However, though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we don’t have to fear evil because The Shepherd knows us by our names and will not leave us.

WednesdaySatan has come to steal, kill and destroy and he wants to fill our minds with worldly things. Therefore, we must pray without ceasing that God will grant us wisdom and give us grace to think on the things that will help us to stay focused and live holy.

ThursdayEven if we have missed the mark, the name of Jesus means salvation and forgiveness. Let’s repent of any wrong and begin to carry His name with dignity and purpose. We must continue to witness to those who hunger and thirst for a relationship with Jesus.

FridayRemember, God is our ultimate satisfaction. We must trust Him with our spiritual and emotional hunger and be filled with His presence as we triumphantly seek and serve those who are lost.

***The English Standard Version (ESV) stands in the classic mainstream of English Bible translations over the past half-millennium. The fountainhead of that stream was William Tyndale’s New Testament of 1526; marking its course were the King James Version of 1611 (KJV), the English Revised Version of 1885 (RV), the American Standard Version of 1901 (ASV), and the Revised Standard Version of 1952 and 1971 (RSV). In that stream, faithfulness to the text and vigorous pursuit of accuracy were combined with simplicity, beauty, and dignity of expression. Our goal has been to carry forward this legacy for a new century.

To this end each word and phrase in the ESV has been carefully weighed against the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, to ensure the fullest accuracy and clarity and to avoid under-translating or overlooking any nuance of the original text. The words and phrases themselves grow out of the Tyndale-King James legacy, and most recently out of the RSV, with the 1971 RSV text providing the starting point for our work. Archaic language has been brought to current usage and significant corrections have been made in the translation of key texts. But throughout, our goal has been to retain the depth of meaning and enduring language that have made their indelible mark on the English-speaking world and have defined the life and doctrine of the church over the last four centuries.

The ESV is an “essentially literal” translation that seeks as far as possible to capture the precise wording of the original text and the personal style of each Bible writer. It seeks to be transparent to the original text, letting the reader see as directly as possible the structure and meaning of the original. More about the ESV translation philosophy….***

Inspirational Thoughts from Sister Clovia Thompson

The Cell Phone vs. the Bible

Ever wondered what would happen if we treat our Bible like we treat our Cell Phone.

  • What if we carried our Bible around in our purse or pocket?
  • What if we flip through the Bible several times a day?
  • What if we turned back to go get our Bible if we forget it?
  • What if we treated our Bible like we could not live without it?
  • What if we gave the Bible to our kids as a gift?
  • What if we used the Bible in case of an emergency?

This is something to make you think:  “Where is my Bible?” One more thing, unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected or the Wi-Fi being down because Jesus has already paid the bill.

“My friends, make time for God every day so He will have time for you.”— Sister Clovia
