Overview: There are times in life when we feel lonely and isolated; we must allow God to fill the void. As we stay anchored in the Lord, we will be able to stand up for our rights in this cruel world. However, there are times when the Holy Spirit will instruct us to be meek and show God’s grace toward those who mistreat us. In doing so, we demonstrate the power of God in us and may paint a picture of love that will point them to Christ. In this chaotic world that we’re living in, we must never lose our joy and wonder of God’s goodness. Instead, express our childlike faith by desiring to grow in our relationship with Him. God will empower us to continue do the work that He’s assigned our hands to do. When our work is done, God will call us home. In our time of loneliness, especially when a loved one has preceded us in death, we grieve. However, we have hope that Jesus is coming back to reunite all believers someday. Meanwhile, decisions about life must be considered. Keep in mind that wiser older people who abide in the Lord can teach us about life experiences. Let’s begin to give a listening ear to their counsel. God will give us direct instructions on who to go to. Listen and obey the voice of God as the Holy Spirit leads us and let’s not be distracted by the noises of this world.

***The Scriptures for this week’s devotionals are taken from the THE CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH VERSION (CEV).  Uncompromising simplicity marked the American Bible Society’s (ABS) translation of the Contemporary English Version (CEV) that was first published in 1995. The text is easily read by grade schoolers, second language readers, and those who prefer the more contemporized form. The CEV is not a paraphrase. It is an accurate and faithful translation of the original manuscripts.   To learn more visit The Contemporary English Version Bible.***

Thoughts from Sister Clovia Thompson   – Let the Children Lead

Children have periodically played leading roles in social and political movements.  With the NeverAgainMovement, some of the students who survived the shooting in Parkland, FL have organized social media campaigns in favor of gun control.  In Mark 10:14, Jesus said let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Some critics of the NeverAgainMovement are charging that adults are putting  up the children to acts of protest and social media welfare.  Young people need the counsel that comes from wise old people who have years of experience, especially from those who have walked with God and listen to His counsel.

When the youth come to Washington, DC in March to speak out on gun control, here are some direct instructions from wise older people.

“Teen Commandments”

  1. Don’t let your parents down, they brought you up.
  2. Choose your companions with care, you become what they are.
  3. Be masters of your habits or they will master you.
  4. Treasure your time, don’t spend it, invest it.
  5. Stand for something or you will fall for anything.
  6. Select only a date who will make a good mate.
  7. See what you can do for others, not what they can do for you.
  8. Guard your thoughts, what you think, you are.
  9. Don’t fill up on the world’s crumbs, feed your soul on the Living Bread.
  10. 10.Give your all to Christ, He gave His all for you.
