Overview:

Sunday –    God has done amazing work in our lives in the midst of suffering. Let’s share our stories with others as we acknowledge His goodness.

Monday – As we pray for ways to care for and encourage others, remember, we can’t help everybody. However, God will give us compassion and wisdom to meet some of the various needs. Do and give what you can as you have opportunity.

Tuesday –  Life has a way of confusing us and sometimes we can get lost in the shuffle. If this is so, return to God. Accept His love and forgiveness, then begin to tell others how merciful He is.

Wednesday Don’t spend a lot of time letting our past crush us. Again, accept God’s grace and complete forgiveness and get back into the battle of life.

ThursdayMany of us were fortunate enough to have mentors to lay a strong spiritual foundation for us that impacted our lives today. Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to give us strength to witness this legacy of faith to others.

FridayKeep in mind, the love of Jesus surpasses any overflowing storm that may disrupt our lives. Keep our faith in God and believe that He is able to meet our every need.

***The English Standard Version (ESV) stands in the classic mainstream of English Bible translations over the past half-millennium. The fountainhead of that stream was William Tyndale’s New Testament of 1526; marking its course were the King James Version of 1611 (KJV), the English Revised Version of 1885 (RV), the American Standard Version of 1901 (ASV), and the Revised Standard Version of 1952 and 1971 (RSV). In that stream, faithfulness to the text and vigorous pursuit of accuracy were combined with simplicity, beauty, and dignity of expression. Our goal has been to carry forward this legacy for a new century.

To this end each word and phrase in the ESV has been carefully weighed against the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, to ensure the fullest accuracy and clarity and to avoid under-translating or overlooking any nuance of the original text. The words and phrases themselves grow out of the Tyndale-King James legacy, and most recently out of the RSV, with the 1971 RSV text providing the starting point for our work. Archaic language has been brought to current usage and significant corrections have been made in the translation of key texts. But throughout, our goal has been to retain the depth of meaning and enduring language that have made their indelible mark on the English-speaking world and have defined the life and doctrine of the church over the last four centuries.

The ESV is an “essentially literal” translation that seeks as far as possible to capture the precise wording of the original text and the personal style of each Bible writer. It seeks to be transparent to the original text, letting the reader see as directly as possible the structure and meaning of the original. More about the ESV translation philosophy….***

Thoughts from Sister Clovia Thompson

Mother’s Translation of the Bible

There is a story about four pastors who were discussing the merits of the various translations of the Bible.  One liked the King James Version because of its beautiful English.

Another liked the American Revised Version because it is more literal and comes nearer to the original Hebrew and Greek languages.  Still another liked the New Living translation best because of its up to date vocabulary.

The fourth pastor was silent.  When asked to express his opinion, he replied, “I like my mother’s translation the best.”  The other three pastors expressed surprise.  They did not know that his mother had translated the Bible.

The fourth pastor replied, “Yes she did.  She translated it into life and it was the most convincing translation I have ever seen.”
