SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK

(5) For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. (6) For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. — 2 Corinthians 4:5-6 (KJV) (ESV)

Overview:

Sunday –  Jesus Christ is the greatest gift that we could ever receive. Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to empower us to be bold to freely share the good news of the gospel with someone today.

Monday – In addition to salvation, God has given us all spiritual gifts in heavenly places. Let’s desire to open our hearts and hands as we share our borrowed blessings freely with others and give God thanks for His provisions.

TuesdayWe can’t explain the depth of God’s love that we experience in our hearts but we can attempt to share His love with those we meet. This is how the world will know that we are Christs’ disciples.

Wednesday As God’s love continues to abound more in our lives, we will face oppositions. We must be situationally aware of our surroundings and be confident that God is always present. Allow the Holy Spirit to fill us with good qualities as we face difficulties in this world and continue to grow in knowledge and reflect the character of Christ.

ThursdayWatch out! Be alert, and be vigilant when the devil tries to tempt us. We can’t afford to be lazy or complacent because our adversary seeks to discourage and destroy us. Be strong in the Lord and resist the devil.

Friday –  It’s imperative that we examine ourselves to make sure that sin is not clogging our spiritual hearts. If we are in a struggle with any sin, let’s ask God to forgive us and cleanse our hearts from all evils.

***The English Standard Version (ESV) stands in the classic mainstream of English Bible translations over the past half-millennium. The fountainhead of that stream was William Tyndale’s New Testament of 1526; marking its course were the King James Version of 1611 (KJV), the English Revised Version of 1885 (RV), the American Standard Version of 1901 (ASV), and the Revised Standard Version of 1952 and 1971 (RSV). In that stream, faithfulness to the text and vigorous pursuit of accuracy were combined with simplicity, beauty, and dignity of expression. Our goal has been to carry forward this legacy for a new century.

To this end each word and phrase in the ESV has been carefully weighed against the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, to ensure the fullest accuracy and clarity and to avoid under-translating or overlooking any nuance of the original text. The words and phrases themselves grow out of the Tyndale-King James legacy, and most recently out of the RSV, with the 1971 RSV text providing the starting point for our work. Archaic language has been brought to current usage and significant corrections have been made in the translation of key texts. But throughout, our goal has been to retain the depth of meaning and enduring language that have made their indelible mark on the English-speaking world and have defined the life and doctrine of the church over the last four centuries.

The ESV is an “essentially literal” translation that seeks as far as possible to capture the precise wording of the original text and the personal style of each Bible writer. It seeks to be transparent to the original text, letting the reader see as directly as possible the structure and meaning of the original. More about the ESV translation philosophy….***

Thoughts from Sister Clovia Thompson

Stewards of Christ’s Love

A steward is someone that cares for someone else’s property.  We ARE stewards of what God has created.    Stewardship is about love and a matter of the heart.  It is a response to the unexplainable love that God has shown toward us.

Stewardship of love is seeing all God has entrusted to each one of us and using all that we are and have, our time, talents, and treasures in God pleasing ways.  God’s love comes down to us in Jesus Christ.  Only by giving God’s love to others are we able to receive more than we already have.

Being good stewards of God’s love will bring us great joy and help us to grow spiritually.

“My friends, make time for God every day because He always has time for you.” — Sister Clovia
