This Week’s Overview:

Sunday    To be effective in our priestly roles, we must allow the Holy Spirit to help us be gentle with one another during conflicts.

Monday  If we become emotionally distraught, it can affect our spiritual view. Look to Jesus for strength and not at our circumstances.

Tuesday –  God is able to take all of our shattered lives and make them brand new. We must believe that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. Allow Him to break the cycles of our dark past.

Wednesday Despite the troubles we’ve had, God is still good! Sing a song unto the Lord that will influence us and others what we believe about the goodness of God.

ThursdayGod truly understands our hurts and struggles. Thank Him for being compassionate towards us and let us also be merciful to others that are hurting and lost.

FridayRemember, God made us relational. Therefore, relying on religious works or practices can lead us to a dead end. As we show mercy and share the gospel with othersremember to be gentle but truthful in sharing with them that Jesus is the only way to the Father.

***The English Standard Version (ESV) stands in the classic mainstream of English Bible translations over the past half-millennium. The fountainhead of that stream was William Tyndale’s New Testament of 1526; marking its course were the King James Version of 1611 (KJV), the English Revised Version of 1885 (RV), the American Standard Version of 1901 (ASV), and the Revised Standard Version of 1952 and 1971 (RSV). In that stream, faithfulness to the text and vigorous pursuit of accuracy were combined with simplicity, beauty, and dignity of expression. Our goal has been to carry forward this legacy for a new century.

To this end each word and phrase in the ESV has been carefully weighed against the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, to ensure the fullest accuracy and clarity and to avoid under-translating or overlooking any nuance of the original text. The words and phrases themselves grow out of the Tyndale-King James legacy, and most recently out of the RSV, with the 1971 RSV text providing the starting point for our work. Archaic language has been brought to current usage and significant corrections have been made in the translation of key texts. But throughout, our goal has been to retain the depth of meaning and enduring language that have made their indelible mark on the English-speaking world and have defined the life and doctrine of the church over the last four centuries.

The ESV is an “essentially literal” translation that seeks as far as possible to capture the precise wording of the original text and the personal style of each Bible writer. It seeks to be transparent to the original text, letting the reader see as directly as possible the structure and meaning of the original. More about the ESV translation philosophy….***

Inspirational Thoughts from Sister Clovia Thompson

MUSIC MATTERS IN WORSHIP
Did you realize the Bible is loaded with music?  The Bible is full of music and musical references from cover to cover; from the angels being created with musical abilities and singing at creation of the earth (Ezekiel 28:13-14) to the song of the Lamb of God (Revelations 15:3).

Music was used as an emotional expression of appreciation and thanks to God. When an unusual or significant event occurred, it was quite common for people to compose and sing songs praising and thanking God for His blessings.

Music is the universal language of mankind. Where words fail, music speaks. It speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest; it heals the heart and makes it whole; flows from heaven to the soul.

When we have times of uncertainty or fear is overwhelming our hearts—we can sing or play spiritual songs to get our minds on the right track. Music has the power to help us in our faith when our words and melodies are directed towards God. Music can be used to educate, edify, inspire and unite.

Music is a gift from our Heavenly Father and is an important part of our worship.

Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God.  (Psalm 147:7)
