Overview:

Sunday    The Spirit of God emboldens and empowers us to faithfully serve the Lord with enthusiasm. Despite the difficulties of life, with joyful anticipation, let’s continue to serve and wait patiently for the return of Christ.

Monday – We’re living in perilous times and we face danger every day. There is power in singing praises to our God in the midst of our troubles and He will give us strength.

Tuesday –   We can rejoice in the fact that prayer unites the body of Christ to God. He may use our prayers for one another to show His goodness and strengthen the brethren in need.

Wednesday In the meantime, make it our ambition to use our God-given talents to live a quiet and peaceful life. Let’s not be a burden to anyone, instead, trust God to show us how to be a help to each other.

ThursdayGod left His Word on record for us to follow and to make us better. Even when His instructions seem bitter, we can trust that it will be a delight and sweet for our souls.

FridayContinue praising and praying to God in every situation. He will not only respond but chains will be broken, prison doors will be opened and God will be glorified. There is power in the praise!

***The English Standard Version (ESV) stands in the classic mainstream of English Bible translations over the past half-millennium. The fountainhead of that stream was William Tyndale’s New Testament of 1526; marking its course were the King James Version of 1611 (KJV), the English Revised Version of 1885 (RV), the American Standard Version of 1901 (ASV), and the Revised Standard Version of 1952 and 1971 (RSV). In that stream, faithfulness to the text and vigorous pursuit of accuracy were combined with simplicity, beauty, and dignity of expression. Our goal has been to carry forward this legacy for a new century.

To this end each word and phrase in the ESV has been carefully weighed against the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, to ensure the fullest accuracy and clarity and to avoid under-translating or overlooking any nuance of the original text. The words and phrases themselves grow out of the Tyndale-King James legacy, and most recently out of the RSV, with the 1971 RSV text providing the starting point for our work. Archaic language has been brought to current usage and significant corrections have been made in the translation of key texts. But throughout, our goal has been to retain the depth of meaning and enduring language that have made their indelible mark on the English-speaking world and have defined the life and doctrine of the church over the last four centuries.

The ESV is an “essentially literal” translation that seeks as far as possible to capture the precise wording of the original text and the personal style of each Bible writer. It seeks to be transparent to the original text, letting the reader see as directly as possible the structure and meaning of the original. More about the ESV translation philosophy….***

Inspirational Thoughts from Sister Clovia Thompson

Profound Grace Through Profound Grief

In the media last week we witnessed grace like none other displayed.  Brandt Jean, the brother of Botham Jean, murdered by a Dallas, TX police woman name, Amber Guyger, took the witness stand to make a victim impact statement.  What came next were profound moments of compassion.  These moments played out after many left the courtroom and while the world watched on-line.  These were acts of love, grace and forgiveness that generated headlines all over the world.

Brandt spoke directly to Amber, who was just sentenced to serve ten years in prison for the fatal killing of his brother.  He told her that he loves and forgives her.  He lovingly told her to turn to Christ, because it is what his brother would have wanted.  Then he said, “I don’t know if this is possible, but can I give her a hug, please?”  This hug that was heard around the world!

Afterwards the Judge, Tammy Kemp, was also swept up by the profound movements of compassion.  The Judge came down from her lofty podium, hugged the victim and asked Guyger’s permission to gift her with a Bible. A Bible that Guyger could take with her to prison, so she could reflect on God’s grace and mercy.

In the fullness of God’s grace, love, power and mercy; in the power of His name, the world was lifted through Brandt Jean’s acts of profound grace through his grief.

“My friends, make time for God every day because He always has time for you.” — Sister Clovia
