Overview:

Sunday    As we look intently into God’s Word for instructions, we must be doers and not just hearers of the Word.

Monday – If we’re in a leadership position and have become self-righteous, we must humble ourselves and repent. Stop thinking that we can do no wrong. God will forgive hypocrites!

Tuesday –   Remember, to whom much is given, much is required. As a result, we may find ourselves going through many difficult storms in life. Nevertheless, God will shelter us from the storms and hide us in the cleft of the rock. When we cry out to Him, He will give us peace.

Wednesday As we persevere every day, keep the faith in these dark and troubling times. Don’t fear, instead, cling to God and trust Him to give us strength. Also, reach out and help your brothers and sisters to hang in there.

ThursdayOne day Jesus will return to restore all things. In the meantime, we must not forget to encourage those who may feel that they’ve been abandoned by Jesus. Tell them to look up because their redemption draws nigh.

FridayAs we continue to study the Bible, we can all attest to the fact that God is the true source and subject of our lives. It’s an absolute fact that we can do nothing without Him. Again, if self wants to get in the way, bring your flesh under subjection and let’s begin to obey God’s Word. The Holy Spirit will then begin to guide us down the path that God has chosen for us for His glory. Consequently, we must declare that the Lord has done this work and that He is in charge.

***The English Standard Version (ESV) stands in the classic mainstream of English Bible translations over the past half-millennium. The fountainhead of that stream was William Tyndale’s New Testament of 1526; marking its course were the King James Version of 1611 (KJV), the English Revised Version of 1885 (RV), the American Standard Version of 1901 (ASV), and the Revised Standard Version of 1952 and 1971 (RSV). In that stream, faithfulness to the text and vigorous pursuit of accuracy were combined with simplicity, beauty, and dignity of expression. Our goal has been to carry forward this legacy for a new century.

To this end each word and phrase in the ESV has been carefully weighed against the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, to ensure the fullest accuracy and clarity and to avoid under-translating or overlooking any nuance of the original text. The words and phrases themselves grow out of the Tyndale-King James legacy, and most recently out of the RSV, with the 1971 RSV text providing the starting point for our work. Archaic language has been brought to current usage and significant corrections have been made in the translation of key texts. But throughout, our goal has been to retain the depth of meaning and enduring language that have made their indelible mark on the English-speaking world and have defined the life and doctrine of the church over the last four centuries.

The ESV is an “essentially literal” translation that seeks as far as possible to capture the precise wording of the original text and the personal style of each Bible writer. It seeks to be transparent to the original text, letting the reader see as directly as possible the structure and meaning of the original. More about the ESV translation philosophy….***

Inspirational Thoughts from Sister Clovia Thompson

We Need Jesus

More than anything, we need Jesus.  Let us never forget a single moment of that truth, because He is the only one who will calm storms and revive our soul.  We need Him just as we need the air in our lungs or the warmth of the sun.  Jesus Christ is not an accessory to our life, He is our Life.

Not a day goes by that we are not in need of God’s grace and peace.  Every morning we need His Spirit to fill us again, to strengthen us to what is ahead for the day.  Every day we need an encouraging word which He speaks to our heart, to help keep us focused on what’s more important.  Trying to run this race of life without Jesus will do nothing but drain us dry.

Science says that we need at least four basic elements to survive:  water, air, food, and light.  Look at what the Bible tells us about Jesus:

  1. I am the Living Water (John 4:10)
  2. I am the Breath of Life (Job 33:4)
  3. I am the Bread of Life (John 6:35)
  4. I am the Light of the World (John 8:12)

Science was right, we need Jesus to live!
